Topic: Category: Music / ccMixter ccMixter is a wonderful resource for open source music, but it is in dire need of a peer critique system. The introduction of Podcasts featuring ccMixter content is a step in the right direction, but without clear distribution, the site may be doomed to wade through niche audiences for an unknown length of time. dig.ccMixter.com is a giant step forward, allowing individual tracts to be embedded, and bloggers to promote the music as they deem fit. In addition, the music can be downloaded by the audience. However, each track must be downloaded individually, and without a peer review system, it requires each user to pour hours of effort into finding worthwhile music. It seems as if ccMixter is an ideal environment for the producers of music, searching through samples of sound to find secret treasures, much like flipping through a room full of dusty LPs. For a listener, however, the process needs to be simpler. I hope that the solution is out there, and someone can simply point me in the right direction. (e.g. a series of RSS feeds from ccMixter, organized by popularity & genre) If the solution does not exist, then maybe it is time for it to be created. I would love to have ccMixter feel more accessible to the average consumer. If apple is working hard to shut them out, then we must work double to connect the free music revolution to the masses. |
